Contemporary Spaces Within A Historic Structure

In restoring the Victorian era home to its former glory, its architecture and historic interest needed to be respected while creating a contemporary interior.

Preserving the original stained glass above the entryway, an old drywall box foyer was transformed into an open, light-filled entry vestibule. A bespoke mantle, hand-carved from solid stone, now completes the original zero-clearance, wood burning fireplace.

Throughout the house, use of space, functionally and aesthetically, became a priority. In the long, narrow kitchen for example, a galley-style corridor integrates with a custom designed, special width island. A cozy breakfast nook to the side is ready to bathe in the morning sun.

The loft was turned into a multifunctional space, accommodating a study, laundry facilities, a guest room and important hidden storage. Steep, yet comfortable block steps with a parabolic railing lead up to a second level that uses the full height of the room.
